Daniel was born in Darwin and raised by Othmar and Denise Gfeller. He first became interested in photography in year 10 and continued on with it to year 12. Photography was the only class he really enjoyed and spent most lunch breaks in the darkroom. As part of his end of year major work, two portraits of his parents were selected to be exhibited in Exit Art, a selection of the Northern Territories best Art students. They were then put in a smaller exhibition at Darwin’s major shopping mall. In 2010 after finishing high school, he worked as an assistant to a printer on a plate press. He worked hard for six months, saved his pennies and traveled through Europe for the remainder of the year. After his travels he made the decision to move to Sydney to pursue a career in Photography. Once there he applied for the Certificate IV in Photo Imaging and was accepted. He has continued his studies while working in photographic studios assisting, shooting personal projects and has been exhibited twice in the Captured Exhibition as part of the Head On Festival.
